A mile wide and an inch deep

I watch so many companies try to do so much at once. And as panic sets into the consulting industry during the hard times we are going to see people frantically scattering their cash, time and efforts into a range of areas.

A shotgun approach, like the down-on-her luck gambler putting chips all over the place on the roulette wheel.

Superficial efforts, average results, over-worked employees and a bet far larger than you should be making right now.

Instead focus on one thing. Something that you know works, and do it brilliantly. Instead of trying to do a little of everything do a heck of a lot of one thing in particular.

Squeeze every possible amount of revenue and costs out of it before looking at the next deep initiative. Extraordinary results often come from doing ordinary things exceptionally well.
