In times of great change...

In times of great change companies value people who can implement
I have riffed on this before and it is one of the great truths of our time. The internet, the news, our businesses and our lives are filled with tremendous change. Every day someone is telling us something else that is going to be the next big thing. And it's all moving so fast...

Like most of us I have lived at the heart of change for decades now. Involving myself in dramatic changes in governments, companies and of course my own life. The trend is now clear...

We hear of a change in (say) technology. Our company embraces (is sold) the concept. And we're off.

Then we hear of the next transformational technology. Our company embraces it...

Meanwhile nobody is looking after the last dramatic paradigm shift we are trying to get through. Everyone moves onto where the light is shining brightest and the project withers from lack of attention.

This is where implementers come into their own. The ability to get through the hard times, retain momentum, continue to squeeze out benefits, and make sure that the job gets done is sadly lacking.

Want proof? How did your last ERP project turn out? Or that gigantic training initiative? Or even the last restructure?

Sort of trailed away after a while didn't it?

People who can see things through are scarce. In fact, they are at a premium. People who can be pragmatic, dogged in their drive for success, and fantastic at delivering (and publicizing) results are the people who can make the difference.

Its important to be the one who gets it done, not just the one who thinks of it. great ideas are a dime a dozen these days...
