Some more thoughts on the recruitment industry...

Whenever an industry is packed with competitors you know it is ripe for a shake up.

Why? Because the size of the prize has turned into a commodity. So if you can find a way to offer something new you can get the jump on everybody else who is doing the same old same old.

And from what I see, the recruitment industry globally is about as competitive as it gets!

You could work at either the placement end for the better margins, or the rented labor end for the ongoing fees. (Almost like a real estate operation isn't it?)

What if you started from the candidates point of view, instead of the employers or agents viewpoints?

Local, not global

The classic approach is to advertise far and wide, pitch for work nationally and trowel through resumes looking for candidates. The problem? You get candidates who are looking, not necessarily the best candidates.

Instead of the usual advertise and fish approach to candidates, what if you were able to get them through your leading edge resume services?

Professional looking resumes, delivered with a handout on how to use LinkedIn for job hunting, and a 1 hour career advice session.

Explaining to all of them how to set up their LinkedIn account, how to develop their network among their immediate hiring demographic, and how to approach people who would know for opportunities.

And of course, how to link to you.

Your key marketing technique here is of course word of mouth. You want to develop a personal relationship with each of them, and even offer a referral fee for every one else they send to you.
