Take that first step

We are in a new year now…so why not start off with a positive change in your life? I learned long ago you can approach things in two ways. You can find reasons not to do something or you can find reasons to get things done. It is better to be the type of person who finds reasons to make things happen. There are enough distractions and conflicts in everyday life so don’t fall into a pattern where you think you don’t have control of your life or schedule.

Continuing education or certifications is always a good start if that is your goal. Go ahead and schedule a class early in the year. Don’t wait and see how things are going to work out after the first quarter. Before you know it you will be at the end of the year.

Want to read the latest business books, news, or a good biography but struggle with time? Try the world of digital books and podcasts. If you travel in your job or have long commutes this is a brilliant way to pass the time while being entertained or learning from the experience of others.

One of the complaints I hear a lot is that I can’t eat healthy or exercise since I work long hours and travel. I know it is a struggle but not impossible. I’ve been in the long hours and travel category for many years and found the best way to solve this problem is simple - just change your habits. At dinner order water to drink, salad to eat, a light entrée, and skip the dessert. As for exercise, make it the first thing you do when you return from work. Change into your workout clothes and then head to the gym. Most hotels have a fitness center and at a minimum you can do a light 20 minute walk after dinner. Doing this will benefit you in many ways. It will make you healthier, reduce stress, and give you more energy during the day.

Have some good ideas at work or you want to pitch an idea to a potential buyer If you are ready and feel strong about it then make a call and schedule that meeting. Go into the meeting describing the value of the idea, benefits for them, and how you can make it happen.

All you have to do is take that first step.
