Like all of us, I tend to get pretty focussed on methodology. In particular I had burrowed pretty deep into one specific area of reliability engineering.
Deep methodology specialization is almost like hawking a particular software solution. Its all about the minutiae, the detail and a point by point debating on functionalities and capacities.
The problem... nobody cares!
All they want is the result. Be pragmatic, be value focussed, and don't rule yourself out by only providing a narrow view on how to fix their problems.
Oh yes, and reconsider becoming software agnostic - helps win more work.
