Editorial for February

Even more changes to the site

I am getting really fed up with the template choosing situation for this site. Every time I grab one it ends up looking pretty dour after a while. so - time to get serious about this.

I found a new template here. Looks okay, and I am going to load it up over the next week or so. Also found a great e-book from Amanda's website BloggerBuster.com on how to modify templates and create your own look.

So, those two together and we will see how this pans out.

A New Brand Image

Lastly, for image, I was inspired by Small business trends to get a new logo for the site at Logoworks. I first found out about these guys on Guy Kawasaki's site, and used it once already for my site at TheBrilliantCareer.com.

These guys are relatively cheap and they do a good job. So the site should finally start to look decent. I was thinking about a photo also - but best not to frighten people.

Content

In terms of content I need to post more often, and shorter posts. We still have a backlog of interviews to publish, but there is a need to take a bit of a Seth Godin approach I feel.

For ConsultingHub members, we are going to publish a set of small e-books on consulting. One on presentation skills, one on Business Intelligence, and one on Socratic teaching methods.

Am going to try to keep them to about 50-60 pages so I can get them out quickly.

Hopefully they will be of interest. I am going to use the e-book templates I found on the HP wiki site. (Thanks to Small Business Trends)

The Networking Group

The Hub has taken on a life of its own in recent time. We suddenly received several hundred applications to join, and we are starting to look at how to give them greater value.

We have done a lot of work on the job site, and moved it to the domain www.thebrilliantcareer.com.

Seems to be drawing more attention these days. So that's a good thing.

So, we have come up with the following:

  • still only one email per month, love that, and they will be the recipients of the e-books we put together.
  • we have started drafting a series of posts on how to use LinkedIn, that should help.

More to come on this - but one step at a time.
