Consulting Gadgets

Last week, purely on impulse, I purchased a Genius G-Note 7100 to help me in my consulting work... and it has totally transformed the way I do business. Great Stuff!

I had seen tablets previously, but I had no idea that they had become so cheap or so available. When I showed my clients they immediately took it off my hands, went and discussed it with their own leadership, and now I believe they are looking at trying them out themselves prior to making them standard issue in their company.

I checked out some of the other more electronic tablets such as the Genius MousePen and the Genius G-Pen. And while they are great devices, which I might purchase a bit later on, the 7100 better represents how I work today.

So this means I can only use it to take notes, then file them electronically. With a little bit of care I can get myself to the situation where I never lose notes again. This for me is a fantastic device because I seem to spend a lot of time taking notes at meetings, writing diagrams and explanations, or summarizing discussions and action points.

The others will allow you to write electronically without any paper or uploads, as well as enabling you to edit and put notes on presentations and other existing documents. And I might have a look at them one day soon, but for me the key thing I required was something to help me take notes.

It isn't without its hassles however. You need special pens (which could get lost), the pens need special tips, and there are batteries required for the tablet itself as well as for each of the pens. It seems to write okay though, which was a nice surprise.

All in al lI like it, and I am using it every day now. Check it out, costs around $145 and truly good value for money.
